Carving out new territory, the Washington DC City Council this week began entertaining a new proposal that would have private businesses open their restrooms up for use by the general public in the Nation’s Capital! Under the proposal, which was jointly-sponsored by these four bright lights on the DC Council (Brianne Nadeau, David Grosso, Robert White and Elissa Silverman), participating businesses would be compensated with the “Community Toilet Incentive”, calculated at 110 percent of the additional cost of maintenance and cleaning supplies resulting from the inevitable increase in the use of the business’ restroom. (No, I am not making this up!) Participating businesses would be required to post signs indicating their restrooms are open to the public for free and the Mayor would be mandated to create a working group to locate 10 new public restrooms throughout the District based in areas where human waste is frequently found!
