The United States Senate passed a fiscal 2017 budget resolution early Thursday, the first step in the process of repealing Obamacare through a powerful, majority-vote mechanism known as reconciliation. The 51- 48 vote came after many hours of debate on an array of Democratic amendments intended to squeeze Republicans for targeting the health law. The House is expected to vote on the budget later today. Although the passage of the budget is the first step, the repeal of the Obama Care mandate will still take quite a bit of doing and until such time as it is completely repealed and/or replaced, employers are bound by its provisions. Toward that end, if employers are looking to offer their workers health insurance through SHOP (the Small Business Health Options Program Marketplace (health exchange), the deadline for February enrollments is this Sunday, January 15, 2017.
