Under the provisions of AB 1908 in New Jersey, it’s anything that’s not related to operating a motor vehicle – potentially, coffee included!  Yes, Hudson Assemblyman Nicholas Chiaravalloti along with Middlesex Assemblyman John Wisniewski have filed legislation that would potentially make a driver having a cup of coffee while operating a motor vehicle illegal.  The legislation is only pending at this time, but Wisniewski believes it is time for the state to take action against drivers who do anything other than drive, telling the press “Education and enforcement can change the attitudes of people.”  Their bill proposes fines of $200 – $400 for a first offense, $400 – $600 for a 2nd and $600 – $800 plus license suspension and insurance points on a 3rd offense!  As the old saying goes, ‘Idle hands are the devil’s workshop!’
