At the risk of belaboring the pending increases in minimum wages across the country, we felt it important to again remind our subscribers of the wage hikes that will become effective next weekend.  Those states with new minimum wages taking effect January 1, 2017 include:

Alaska – $9.80                                Michigan – $8.90
Arizona – $10.00                            Missouri – $7.70
Arkansas – $8.50                            Montana – $8.15
Colorado – $9.30                            New Jersey – $8.44
Connecticut – $10.10                     Ohio – $8.15
Florida – $8.10                                South Dakota – $8.65
Hawaii – $9.25                                Vermont – $ 10.00
Maine – $9.00                                Washington – $11.00

Massachusetts – $11.00

We would also remind you that the New York minimum wage increases on December 31, 2016 and is higher for the fast food industry: $12 in New York City and $10.75 elsewhere in the state. Also, California has a two-tiered minimum wage at the state level, mandating $10.00 an hour for small employers and $10.50 for large employers.  In addition, the federal contractor minimum wage rises to $10.20 as of January 1.
