Two New Jersey state senators have filed legislation that would ban New Jersey employers from inquiring about the salary history of job applicants.  Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg and Senator Nia Gill a few weeks ago, filed S. 2536, which would also prohibit an employer from taking reprisals against an employee for disclosing to other current or former employees information about their job title, category, pay, race, ethnicity, and certain other information.  The same two legislators also filed another bill (S. 2535) that would prohibit an employer from requiring or requesting an employee enter into a severance pay agreement resulting in an employee releasing or barring claims against the employer regarding gender discrimination or harassment.
