It may very well be quite the long-shot, but the historically union-supportive state of Pennsylvania is now entertaining Right to Work legislation. Filed in both the Pennsylvania House and Senate earlier this month, right to work is part of a legislative package called the “Open Workforce Initiative”. The initiative is being championed by republican legislators in both branches and includes seven individual pieces of legislation that collectively would make Pennsylvania a far more business-friendly venue as relates labor issues. There are currently 28 states around the country that have adopted right to work laws, with others considering it. Right to work prohibits payment of union dues as a condition of employment.
