We read some great advice from law enforcement this week that we wanted to pass on to our readers. When signing and dating any legal or professional documents, do not use “20” to abbreviate the year “2020” – rather write out the full year in the date. Simply stated, if you were signing a legal document today and abbreviated today’s date as 1/3/20, someone with nefarious intent could easily modify the date of your signature by merely adding a number after it. For example, adding the number “17” to today’s abbreviated date would transform it from 1/3/20 to 1/3/2017! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
