As we advised last week, attorney John Ring was confirmed by the US Senate last Thursday for the final slot on the National Labor Relations Board. What wasn’t evident at the time was that President Trump would be immediately promoting Ring to the chairmanship of the agency. He announced that move last Thursday evening, replacing Chairman Marvin Kaplan with the newly confirmed director. The following day, Kaplan explained that the plan all along was for Ring to assume the Chairmanship once he was confirmed by the full Senate because he was “the most qualified” according to an anonymous White House source. Regardless, it appears all the pieces are now in place and the 3-2 republican edge at the agency is secure at least through 2020.
