An agreement reached this week between franchisees, represented by the Coalition of Franchisee Associations (CFA) and the International Franchise Association (IFA), on behalf of the franchisor community, has smoothed out the road for AB 525, the California Franchise Relations Act, to be sent to the Governor for his approval this year.  In the wake of the agreement, announced by both organizations in a joint letter to the Speaker and Majority Leader of the California Assembly, the bill was unanimously approved (7-0) by the Senate Committee on the Judiciary.  It must now be approved by the full Senate, concurred with by the Assembly and then signed by the Governor.  The agreement, which is well summarized by this story in the Restaurant News, should be sufficient to ensure all that happens when the legislature returns from summer recess after August 17.
