It may very well be the new front in the “Politics of Envy” War being waged across the country, but the city of Albuquerque, New Mexico just catapulted itself into a leading role.  Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry this week hailed the City Council passage of an equal pay ordinance that gives a 5% weighted advantage to companies that have a “pay equity business certificate” from the city’s Office of Diversity and Human Rights.  Equal pay for equal work should be the law of the land, but should the government be the “impartial” arbiter that determines equal value?  The National Labor Relations Board is the “impartial” arbiter of labor disputes . . . we know how that’s working out!  Watch for more “pay equity legislation to sprout up in other municipalities around the country over the next several months.
