The city of Baltimore, where a youth curfew has been on the books for over 20 years, recently enacted the strictest such curfew law in the country. The new curfew requirement, which will take effect on August 15, requires that children between the ages of 14 and 16 be off the streets and home by 10PM on weeknights and 11 PM on weekends. Children under 14 years of age must be home by 9 PM. There is a specific exemption for children with after school jobs and those attending after school or religious events with their parents. In recent years, Indianapolis, Las Vegas and Oakland, CA have also considered imposing stricter curfews while both Kansas City and Philadelphia last year adopted more stringent guidelines. Baltimore’s is now the toughest in the country.
