The Baltimore City Council is set to decide next month whether it will mandate a city minimum wage of $15 per hour. Last week, the City Council’s Labor Committee unanimously voted to send the bill to the full council for a vote. Council President “Jack” Young is staunchly opposed to a $15 minimum as a business killer and has suggested a minimum of $11.50 at the most. The current state minimum is $8.75 an hour. Notwithstanding, sponsor councilwoman Mary Pat Clark secured 4 votes on the Labor Committee to advance the proposal and lame duck Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has said that she will sign the bill if it gets to her desk.
