One of the critical issues facing our members – in fact, all small business owners – is the applicability of their business interruption insurance coverage. In such unprecedented times as these in dealing with the coronavirus crisis and the resulting national shutdown of major components of the American economy. “Will my business insurance cover my losses from COVID-19?” is a question many owners have been asking and continue to ask themselves. Lawsuits have already been filed against insurance companies seeking coverage of business losses in Louisiana and Illinois, while legislation that would mandate coverage has been filed in Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Ohio. There has also been talk in the Nation’s Capital about addressing the issue in any future stimulus legislation that Congress may pursue. I can tell you that DDIFO is pursuing the issue and plans to offer a webinar on the subject soon. Stay tuned!
