Costs be damned, the city of Stockton, California thinks a guaranteed income is a great idea and come this fall will be the first community in the country to implement it. Stockton is readying plans to deliver $500 a month in donated cash to 100 local families without any work requirement or other restrictions attached as part of its pilot program. Known as UBI (universal basic income), it was first tried in Finland in early 2017, and will be ending this year. Already the post-mortems are being massaged so as to blame the Finnish government for failing the idea instead of the idea being a loser from the start. Notwithstanding, be prepared for more communities across the country to look at, talk about and propose implementing universal basic income in some shape or other!
