The Coalition of Franchisee Associations (CFA) has asked franchisees across the country to reach out to their Congressmen and ask for their support of two bills filed by Representative Keith Ellison (MN – 5th District). H.R. 3196, The Fair Franchise Act of 2015 will prohibit unfair and discriminatory practices by franchisors and require all parties to act in good faith. It will also allow franchisees to seek judicial remedies for violations of the contract, among other provisions. The Small Business Administration Franchise Loan Transparency Act (H.R. 3559) requires franchisors to disclose avg. first year revenues, number of franchise locations sold/out of business and average revenues for all franchise owners, among other info, thereby enhancing the transparency in the loan process. More information on these bills and other important issues is available here on this CFA Legislative Update.
