Last week, we advised that the US Senate had blocked the Paycheck Fairness Act, which would provide many more opportunities to sue employers.  This week, we can advise you that this past Monday, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie conditionally vetoed a similar bill (S.992) at the state level.  Primarily, he objected to a particular provision that would have allowed an employee to recover unlimited back pay through a discrimination lawsuit.  In his veto message, the Governor who has vetoed similar bills in the past for similar reasons, explained that the NJ bill would have greatly exceeded the provisions of the federal Lily Ledbetter act and made New Jersey very unfriendly to business.
