The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is currently undertaking a formal review of the Franchise Rule, which you may recall, requires franchisors to publish a Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) designed to provide material information to assist prospective franchisees in their decision whether or not to purchase the franchise. In its review, the FTC is looking at what changes should be made to the Franchise Rule to improve its utility for franchisees. It is imperative that the agency hear about the rule’s deficiencies from franchise owners across all brands and what changes are necessary to improve its utility for prospective franchise owners. The public comment period is now open – the deadline for submission is next Thursday, December 17, 2020 – and we urge you to submit comments ASAP. A public hearing on the effectiveness of the Franchise Rule was held on November 10 (video available). The Coalition of Franchisee Associations (CFA) has drafted a letter outlining CFA’s recommendations for improving the Franchise Rule.  Please take a moment to review the letter, modify it if you wish to make it your own, and submit it to the FTC immediately at:
