Earlier this past summer, Canadian-based Tim Horton’s introduced its new plant-based Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich and Beyond Burger as limited-time offers across Canada. With sales for the meat substitutes running higher than expected, the RBI-owned coffee and donut chain will continue to offer both at most stores in the provinces of Ontario and British Columbia. In the same vein, McDonald’s just announced that it too would be launching an LTO plant-based burger called a PLT (Plant, lettuce & tomato) in select stores in southwestern Ontario. Back here in the states, McDonald’s also announced this week that it had struck deals with both Amazon and Google where artificial intelligence devices, Alexa and Google Assistant respectively, will be capable of initiating an employment application process for the Golden Arches through either of the popular voice-activated artificial intelligence devices. The service, which is said to be a first is currently available in the US and Canada as well as Australia and several European countries. And finally, we noted a week or so ago that Coca-Cola owned Honest Tea was expanding its RTD offerings with the addition of RTD coffees in three flavors: unsweetened, Cubano and Mocha.
