Starbucks made news this week on both the domestic as well as international fronts. First, the company announced this week that it was expanding its happy hour buy one get one free deal to include all hand-crafted beverages in grande size or larger. The expanded menu includes some of their priciest items such as the flat white, Frappuccino and caramel macchiato and went into effect on Wednesday, October 10. On the international front, Hong Kong democracy demonstrators set their sights on Starbucks, protesting the coffee giant at a number of stores within Hong Kong. Most of the protest sites are owned by Maxim’s Group, a Starbucks franchisee with close ties to mainland China and its communist government in Beijing.
