Earlier this week, Starbucks announced that EVP and President of US and Canada operations Rossann Williams was leaving the company. Williams played a prominent role in the company’s initial fights with unionization efforts in upstate New York – largely successful for the union – when the unionizing issue first arose back in February. Since that time, Starbucks Workers United (SWU) has won a significant majority of the battles it has engaged across the Starbucks footprint. In other competitor notes, Starbucks veteran Joe Thornton was recently introduced as the new president at Scooters Coffee. Thornton served with Starbucks in a number of executive positions and brings over 40 years of experience in the food services industry, having also worked in executive positions at HMSHost and Jamba. Elsewhere, there’s been a shake-up in the leadership at Krispy Kreme as the company has promoted CFO Josh Charlesworth to the new role of global President and Chief Operating Officer. The company also announced that it was adding soft-serve ice cream to its menu in 10 U.S. markets around the footprint beginning this month. And finally, former Dunkin’ employee Cathy Chavenet was introduced recently as the new senior vice president of Marketing at Duck Donuts. She worked for 13 years with Dunkin’ handling marketing in the New York Tri-State and Upstate regions.
