Major executive changes continue at Starbucks as COO John Culver announced he will be leaving the Seattle firm effective October 3. His departure comes in the wake of CEO Kevin Johnson retiring in April, General Counsel Rachel Gonzalez leaving in May and North American President Rossann Williams leaving in June. Culver has been with Starbucks for the past 20 years. Despite a drop in Q2 same store sales of over 3%, Dutch Bros Coffee recently opened its 600th shop and plans for an additional 130 stores to open by the end of the year. With an 80% cold beverage sales mix, the Oregon-based chain, which just went public last fall, claims it is on pace to reach its target of 800 stores systemwide by the end of 2023. Krispy Kreme and Tim Horton’s, neither of which were listed in the QSR 50 top tier for AUV last year have both made the jump in 2022. With a $4,000,000 AUV, Krispy Kreme, which also went public last year, jumped to 3rd most profitable chain per store AUV this year! Similarly, Tim Hortons, the Canadian chain, landed at #32 in a tie with Starbucks at $1,200,000 AUV. Chipotle, which was at #11 with an AUV of $2,675,000, last week agreed to a record-setting $20 million settlement with New York City in Fair Workweek and other violations involving some 13,000 employees as well as an additional $1 million fine from the city. It was the largest work violations settlement ever reached in the Big Apple.
