Bloomberg news reported yesterday on an internal survey of franchisees by McDonalds of its franchisees that showed only 14% of their franchisees were optimistic about how the company is doing and the likely success of the company’s turnaround effort. In fairness, the survey was conducted before the most recent earnings report. Elsewhere around the competition, we noted that earlier this week, Tim Hortons announced an agreement with the Luke Family of Brands whereby they’ll become the exclusive representative and developer of the brand in Indianapolis and Lafayette, Indiana. They are no doubt hoping for a better result than their last foray into Maine and upstate New York. It was only a few months ago (November 2015) when the company rather unceremoniously vacated 22 stores between the two states. Now, Krispy Kreme is joining the picture in New England as the company this week announced plans to open stores in both Maine and neighboring New Hampshire.
