JAB Holdings this week completed their acquisition of Kuerig Green Mountain and in so doing, consolidated their position in the world of coffee. In addition to the new acquisition, the privately-owned JAB Holdings now has within their corporate family, the following companies: Caribou Coffee, Peet’s Coffee & Tea, Jacobs Douwe Egberts, Bach Espresso, Bravo, Einstein Noah Restaurant Group, and Espresso House. Former Starbucks COO Troy Alstead has announced that he will not be returning to the company and permanently resigned. Alstead had left his position last year for a sabbatical and was previously believed to be the successor-apparent to Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz. Lastly, McDonald’s announced this week that, notwithstanding a previous ad campaign mocking kale, they are now adding a breakfast bowl with kale to its lineup of breakfast items. The kale dish was tested last year on the west coast (shortly after the ad campaign) and now will be available in some 800 stores located throughout southern California.
