The rough run that Tim Horton franchisees have been experiencing (with lawsuits against the brand and such) didn’t abate at all this week as Hortons announced it had reached agreement with a franchisee to close 4 stores in Cincinnati. The Canadian coffee & donut chain also closed a store in Indianapolis recently and dropped plans to build more units throughout central Indiana. And over at the Golden Arches, McDonalds last week began distributing its own currency of sorts, the MacCoin. The promotional coin will be produced in 5 different designs in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the Big Mac. And finally, in the Westlake neighborhood of Seattle last week, Starbucks opened its first standalone Princi bakery in the US. The company apparently plans to open other standalone bakeries in Chicago and New York.
