Starbucks reported strong Q1 earnings yesterday and advised that global comparable store sales were up 4.0% during the quarter with ticket/pricing adding 3 points to growth. Americas SSS were reported at +4% vs. a projected 3.2%. Globally, the company claimed 541 net stores during Q1 accounting for a 7% growth year over year to a total store count of 29,865. Earlier this week, the company also announced it was expanding its delivery trial to 6 additional cities, including Chicago, Boston, New York, Washington DC,Los Angeles and San Francisco. Caribou Coffee announced that it was promoting President John Butcher to President and CEO. Caribou, which is owned by JAB Holdings, has not had anyone in the CEO slot since last fall when former CEO Sarah Spiegel left the company for “personal reasons”.
