If you’ve already reached out to your congressman and advocated for needed amendments to the HEALS Act, thank you. If you haven’t, then we need you to do so ASAP!! As we advised this week in an Action Alert Membership Update sent out yesterday to all members, the Health, Economic Assistance, Liability Protection and Schools (HEALS) Act contains a number of provisions beneficial to small business owners and these are clearly articulated by the Coalition of Franchise Associations in this summary. These provisions include an expansion of the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC) and the Worker Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) along with the creation of a new Safe and Healthy Workplace Tax Credit. In addition, the current draft also provides additional funding for Paycheck Protection Loan Program as well as critical liability protections from lawsuits relating COVID-19. It is also lacking in a number of areas however, and that is where we need you to advocate for the amendments that were detailed in the Action Alert: franchisee exemption from affiliation rules, preservation of liability protections during negotiations, clarification that expenses paid with PPP funds remain deductible and a lower PPP eligibility threshold for lost revenue. Please review the CFA summary again and contact your congressman TODAY asking that the amendments be included in the next stimulus package!
