Our friends at the Bennett Law Firm in Portland and Boston (and also our speakers at yesterday’s Maine District Meeting) reminded us that a few weeks back, Connecticut implemented a new law further restricting employers as relates social media.  Governor Daniel Malloy signed a law that prohibits an employer from requesting that an applicant or employee provide their username or password for a personal online account.  Further, the definition applies to email, social media and “retail-based” or shopping websites.  The law will actually take effect on October 1, 2015, but we wanted you to be aware and begin to prepare for its implementation.
