A federal judge this week in the US District Court for the Northern District of California denied class certification for a group of employees at a number of San Francisco McDonald’s restaurants. The plaintiffs’, who had already settled their claims with the franchise owner back in May of 2016, had brought suit alleging that McDonalds corporate was a joint employer and hence, also liable. Judge Richard Seeborg didn’t see things that way however and granted summary judgement on the joint-employer claim to the Golden Arches. Notwithstanding, he allowed the case to continue on the individual plaintiff claims or that it might be appealed to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
