We were all disappointed by the decision to allow the California fair franchising bill, SB.610 to be pulled from consideration by California legislature’s Committee on Business, Professions and Consumer Protection on the evening before it was to be considered! A closer look reveals the wisdom in this decision – although many were sympathetic to the cause, the bill did not have enough support on the committee for passage. The longer view of how to get GOOD legislation enacted for the benefit of our members/constituents – forcing potential supporters into tough votes along party lines without the likelihood of victory is never a good legislative strategy – mandated that the bill be pulled from consideration. Now, we can look ahead to building a greater coalition for the issue, with bipartisan support and significantly improved chances for victory! Disappointed, but thankful for the wisdom of our supporters in California! Read more about Fair Franchising.
