In the same vein, the Department of Labor (DOL) also announced this week that it was launching a new initiative aimed at strengthening the rights of workers. This new effort, entitled “Essential Workers, Essential Protections”, provides workers with information about the wage and hour laws that apply to them, including instructions on how to contact DOL with questions or complaints. In addition, the DOL Wage and Hour Division released an updated FAQ regarding pay, hours worked and job-protected leave under both the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). It also updated its “Workers Rights” webpage and released a new slate of two dozen webinars throughout just the month of May that are focused exclusively on how workers can better protect themselves. As a result, we can expect to see increasing scrutiny and enforcement efforts against business interests.
