The Department of Labor on Tuesday announced it was extending the Payroll Audit Independent Determination Program (PAID) for an additional six months. PAID is a voluntary compliance initiative that helps workers collect back wages due them in an expedited manner without having to wait for lengthy investigations to conclude or initiate court cases. Through PAID, employers who voluntarily correct errors they discover in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), can avoid significant fines and penalties utilizing Wage and Hour Division (WHD) assistance in resolving the back wage issues. In a statement, WHD credited the program with returning a record $304 million in wages owed to workers during FY2018. PAID, launched earlier this year as a pilot program, will continue at least through March of 2019.
