Learn how to protect your network from employment nightmares.
Illinois elected officials are passing more laws mandating that employers provide more benefits to their employees. In fact this week, Northbrook opted in to the Cook County paid sick leave law! And, just over the past month or so, Illinois expanded the reach of the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act and mandated that employers give extra breaks to nursing mothers to express breast milk! Last year, the state mandated that employees earn one hour of paid sick leave for every 40 hours worked, and the state is now looking at requiring paid family medical leave as well! If these mandates weren’t enough, look at how the courts have been ruling on employment law cases!
Violating employment mandates are extremely costly as just these few recent court awards illustrate:
- $11 Million for Sexual Harassment;
- $250,000 in Bullying Case;
- $850,000 for discrimination;
- $1.4 Million for retaliatory discharge
- $100,000 for disability discrimination
- And the list – and the lawsuits – goes on.
Are you sure you’re in compliance with all Illinois employment laws? Is it worth risking your network? Remember that violating state laws can put you in default of your Dunkin’ franchise agreement!
