Coffee and baked goods chain Dunkin’ Brands is offering a bounty of $12,000 to the winner of a contest to invent the company’s next donut.
Close to 130,000 sugary confections were submitted online, which Canton, Mass.-based Dunkin’ Donuts has narrowed down to a dozen finalists.
The dozen finalists include “A Nutter One,” a chocolate butter kreme-filled donut with peanut butter icing; “The King,” a bananas foster-filled donut with peanut butter icing and chopped peanuts; and the “Tour de France,” a chocolate cake stick with hazelnut kreme glaze. No word on how many calories the proposed donuts contain.
Finalists were tapped on the basis of the ingredients, donut name and donut “story.”
Each finalist won $1,200.
The winner, who will be selected June 5, or “National Donut Day,” will win $12,000.
