Wednesday sued a handful of franchisees in the Hudson Valley of New York and Western Massachusetts, alleging they violated requirements that they remodel their restaurants according to the company’s guidelines.

The suit, filed in U.S. District Court for Massachusetts, seeks forced compliance with remodeling guidelines and damages from Leal Donuts Inc. of North Adams, Mass.; Maria Donuts Inc. of Hudson, N.Y.; and Pico Donuts Inc. of Catskill, N.Y. The companies’ principal shareholders also are named as defendants.

According to Dunkin’s complaint, franchisees must abide by decor guidelines. Timelines laid out in the suit suggest the parent company showed considerable patience in waiting for the defendants to act accordingly.
