Although it is no doubt not “top of mind” for many at this point, the window for collecting and submitting EEO-1 employment data has been shortened. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) last week announced that the EEO-1 Component 1 data collection portal would be opening on April 12, 2022 with the deadline for filing being May 17, 2022, just a short 6 weeks thereafter. The announcement, which including an updated version of the EEOC Fact Sheet, emphasized that the 2019 and 2020 reporting period had closed and no further 2019 or 2020 reports would be accepted. The agency also posted notice that it was discontinuing the EEO-1 Component 1 Type 6 Establishment List Report (Type 6 Report) for those reporting with fewer than 50 employees. Henceforth, ALL filers reporting data for establishments with fewer than 50 employees must use a Type 8 Establishment Report (Type 8 Report) to submit such data. Previously, the Type 6 Report allowed for employers to report only the total number of employees at an establishment rather than the demographic data by EEO-1 category for each location.
