The Boston Globe Staff reports that Dunkin’ Donuts wants fitness buffs to know that it’s about way more than sinkers and pastry.

At a time when many folks have vowed to lose weight and right-size their physiques, Dunkin’ says it has some new menu offerings that the New Year’s resolution crowd can take to heart.

In a press release, the Canton-based coffee-and-baked-goods chain said, “For the first time, all participating Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants throughout the country are offering guests the option of ordering any breakfast sandwich or Wake-up Wrap with egg whites, allowing Americans seeking better-for-you options another way to enjoy their favorite breakfast items.”

And that’s not all. An added starter to the chain’s DDSMART menu is a new “Low Fat Cranberry Orange Muffin,” weighing in with only three grams of fat, the chain said.

In these tough economic times, a vow to get your finances in order seems to have been as nearly as popular a New Year’s resolution as getting fit and losing weight. Dunkin’ aims to help on the financial front as well. For a limited time, local customers can enjoy an “Egg White & Cheese Wake Up Wrap” for 99 cents, Dunkin’ said. And for those who’d rather be frugal than trim, there’s the “Snow Flurries” decorated donut, now available through the first week of February at participating Dunkin’ restaurants for the suggested retail price of 89 cents, the chain said.

According to the press release, this latest marvel of snack-food science is a “yeast ring donut with chocolate icing and wintry snowflake sprinkles.”
