Various US food and agricultural organizations have formally requested that the Food and Drug Administration extend the comment period until August 29, 2014 on its proposed rule regarding sanitary transportation of human food.  The present comment period on the rule, published in the Federal Register earlier this year, ends May 31, 2014.  The summary of the proposed rule (available on the Federal Register website) states that it would specify sanitary transportation practices to be used by shippers, carriers by motor vehicle and rail vehicle, and receivers engaged in the transportation of food to ensure that food is not transported under conditions that may render the food adulterated.
