Although it is still early in the current session, we’re happy to report that the California Franchise Relations Act (Fair Franchising bill) has been advanced by the two committees which have considered it at this point.  As we reported last week, the Judiciary Committee advanced the bill last week on a 7 – 2 vote.  This week, the Committee on Business & Professions, to which Judiciary sent the legislation, approved it by an 11 – 0 vote with 3 members not voting.  There is still a long way to go before our goal here is achieved, but each favorable vote brings us closer!  Elsewhere in Golden State legislation, we want to advise all that beginning July 1 of this year, California employers will be required to comply with the state’s new paid sick leave law and provide employees, whether full or part-time who work at least 30 days in a 12 month period, with paid sick leave at the rate of one hour leave for every 30 hours worked.  More information on the law, which becomes effective July 1, 2015 is available here.
