The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has formally extended the comment period associated with the federal definition of “healthy” foods both generally and for the purposes of nutritional labeling. Originally, the comment period was set to close on January 26, 2017. As the new year approached however, the FDA received many requests to extend the deadline and as a result, has agreed to an additional 90 days – April 26, 2017.  Any impact the transition from the Obama administration to that of (likely more business-friendly) president-elect Trump had on that decision is unknown, but no doubt a welcome delay in many food business circles.
