Franchise owners are cautioned to be aware of a new enforcement guidance on pregnancy discrimination issued two weeks ago by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).  DDIFO employment counsel Morgan Brown Joy advised us of the guidance, which is the first update to the Pregnancy Discrimination Act since it was enacted back in 1978.  The new guidance speaks to a host of issues, including the provision of “light duty” for pregnant workers, compliance with ADA provisions mandating reasonable accommodation (such as lactation), the application of parental leave (as distinguished from medical leave) and further prohibits discrimination against potential pregnancy (???).
