In Hollywood circles, we had Bennifer (Ben Affleck & Jennifer Lopez) along with Bradgelina (Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie), but now Ivanka Trump and Senator Marco Rubio (could they be jointly ID’d as “Ivarco”?) are joining forces to push for adoption of a national paid sick leave policy. Their idea, which Rubio is still crafting into legislation, would allow a taxpayer to take social security payments to cover lost wages for the birth of a new baby or other family leave issues and delay their eligibility to receive social security checks by a comparable time upon their retirement. In other words, a taxpayer could take a 4 week paid leave from social security and delay their full retirement eligibility by the same four weeks. The proposal is similar to one advocated by democrat Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT), except that the latter relies on a new tax (surprised?) not social security to fund the benefit.
