It would appear that the SEIU’s Fight for $15 campaign, which has long targeted unionizing McDonald’s restaurants, may now be targeting their organizing efforts at Chipotle employees. Last week, the union brought its campaign to Washington, DC, where they were handing out flyers outside of Chipotle locations in the Nation’s Capital. The fliers sought to highlight labor law violations they allege that Chipotle is guilty of in New York City. The effort appears to be the precursor to a more concerted effort to organize Chipotle (and perhaps other QSR) employees in the District. In the wake of the various successes the union has enjoyed with its Fight for $15 effort in a host of cities and states across the country, couple with the fact that those efforts continue unabated in many ways, the union appears to be shifting focus to unionization efforts in major worker-friendly cities across the nation.
