It is a completely different type of ballot initiative campaign that Florida Governor Rick Scott is undertaking. Scott recently announced plans to push for an amendment to the state constitution that would require a supermajority in order for state taxes to be increased. Scott, who is term-limited out of office this year and expected to run for US Senate next year, will soon be filing legislation requiring the supermajority. If approved by lawmakers, Scott’s proposal would need to garner 60% of the vote in the 2018 elections to be added to the state constitution. Speaking of the Florida Governor, we advise our Florida subscribers that Senate Majority Leader Jack Latvala has announced his campaign for governor of the Sunshine State. Latvala, who filed the Protect Florida Small Business Act to restore balance to the franchisee-franchisor relationship in Florida, is a small business owner and the chairman of the Florida Senate Appropriations Committee.
