Well, at least on the idea of mandating equal pay and eliminating the so-called pay gap, former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders suggests the United States follow Iceland’s lead in mandating equal pay. Iceland became the first country to make it illegal to pay different amounts to men and women with a new law that took effect on January 1. The story was written up in the Washington Post and Senator Sanders followed up by posting it on his Facebook page. He also posted a video which points out that companies in Iceland with at least 25 employees must be certified by the government that they are paying equal salaries to men and women. Failure to win the government’s certification will result in the company being fined.
