Scheduled to occur weeks ago, the Senate Health Education Labor & Pensions Committee (HELP) finally held its confirmation hearing on Trump NLRB-nominee attorney John Ring. Ring was nominated to fill the final vacant seat on the five-member Board by President Trump back in January and was scheduled for a confirmation hearing last month. That hearing was postponed until yesterday. Democrats on the committee grilled Ring on a host of issues but especially pushed the nominee on his thoughts about joint-employer. The NLRB, as noted above, currently has 4 members deciding cases – 2 republicans and 2 democrats – so the Ring confirmation is critical to moving many issues forward. Ring has enjoyed a successful career as a management-side attorney with law firm Morgan Lewis, but also worked for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters during his college and law school days. The committee has scheduled its formal vote on the nomination for next Wednesday, March 7.
