It is a different process but the same outcome over at the Federal Trade Commission offices where FTC Chairman Joseph Simmons announced he will be resigning from the FTC to allow President Biden appoint his own people. His resignation will be effective January 29. He also announced the pending departure of another eight senior level appointees from the agency. The timing is critical as the FTC is currently reviewing the existing Franchise Rule and deciding whether to update and strengthen its oversight of the franchise industry or merely renew the Franchise Rule as currently written. The Coalition of Franchisee Associations (CFA) has advocated increasing the regulatory control and oversight that the FTC exercises to ensure franchisors meet their legal obligations.
