When Hess Corp. bought 11 Christy’s convenience stores, some – like the one at Route 28 and Yarmouth Road in Hyannis – already had Dunkin Donuts outlets inside.
The Cape Cod Times reported that nearly a dozen Cape gas stations and convenience stores this month said goodbye to the Christy’s brand and hello to Hess — and the new owner has expressed an interest in adding Dunkin’ Donuts to each of its new locations.
International energy giant Hess Corp. announced recently that it acquired 11 of the Cape’s 12 Christy’s locations from parent compant Christy’s of Cape Cod.
According to records from the Barnstable County Registry of Deeds, Hess took over leases on five properties and bought the other six.
The total sales price for the six purchased locations was $16.9 million. Hess spokeswoman Lorrie Hecker declined to disclose to total value fo the deal, citing “competitive reasons.”
Hess operates more than 1,350 gas and convenience retail locations from Massachusetts to Florida.
The signs and format of the stores have largely been switched over to the Hess brand already.
Six of the stores contain Dunkin’ Donuts locations, which will remain in place, and Hess is working with the doughnut chain to make Dunkin’ Donuts available at the remaining five locations, Hecker said.
Christy’s may not yet be entirely gone from the area, however.
Plans for a proposed Christy’s location at a former Mobil station on Route 6A in Dennis have been approved by the town’s planning board and are still pending before the zoning boad of appeals.
Christy Mihos, the owner of Christy’s of Cape Cod, has told town officials that he intends to continue pursuing the plan and that the store will operate under the Christy’s brand, Dennis Town Planner Daniel Fortier said.
