As we advised you a few weeks ago, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has already doubled the amount of worksite enforcement cases the agency initiated in all of 2017 – and there’s still 5 months to go in the federal fiscal year (October 1 – September 30). Well, our friends at SESCO Management Consulting tell us more is to come with the agency anticipating a major increase in the number of I-9 audits it plans for the summer months. Ultimately, ICE plans to conduct as many as 15,000 I-9 audits per year, notable especially in light of the fact they did less than 2300 in 2017 and 3500+ thus far in 2018. Fortunately, DDIFO has scheduled a presentation at the DDIFO National Conference on the agency’s IMAGE program (Immigration Mutual Agreement between Government and Employers) that will help explain the program benefits for employers who agree to participate. An ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure!
