A week or two ago, we advised you of an expansion of the Illinois Nursing Mothers in the Workplace Act, which requires nursing mothers be given extra work breaks. This week, we want you to be aware of an amendment to the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act that requires employers to reimburse employees for certain expenses. The expanded law, which will go into effect on January 1, 2019 requires employers to reimburse all “necessary expenditures . . . incurred by an employee within the employee’s scope of employment and directly related to services performed by the employer.” It is imperative that Illinois employers implement written policies to address these issues and set any dollar limits.
