This week, Massachusetts finalized and announced a new tax amnesty program that will grant individuals and businesses a two-month window to get right with the taxman!  The Massachusetts Department of Revenue Amnesty 2016 program will be available from April 1 through May 31 and will allow taxpayers to file delinquent returns or amend prior tax filings and be held accountable only for the actual tax and interest owed.  Tax penalties and any interest on those penalties will be waived and the “lookback period” will be limited to three years.  As an additional incentive, DOR will bring the hammer down on those who are not in compliance and do not participate in the amnesty program by imposing double the tax and penalties due, invoking an unlimited lookback period and a six-year lookback on previously filed returns.  File this return under: “Why kick a gift horse in the mouth?”
